Carl Templer was appointed in early June 2012 as the executive director of the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District by its Board of Directors. Templer succeeds the first executive director of the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District, David Collins.
Templer has over 20 years of experience with central business districts, business improvement districts, economic development, retail recruitment and retainment and has assisted in the formation and management of business improvement districts — collectively near 40 years of experience in Wisconsin. He has a national profile. Templer was instrumental in forming the first dual-municipality business improvement district in the nation; two communities that had near equal frontage on a main street and each community was on the opposite side of the street. The cooperation was key to the success of the area; it is the first in the nation.
“I am so pleased to have been offered this opportunity. Coconut Grove has such great assets, history, and opportunity. It is a pleasure to be welcomed,” Templer said.
His initial plans are to deliver a strategic plan for the organization and downtown Coconut Grove and focus on enhances service and program delivery.
