Miami New Times Highlights Neighborhood’s Shining Gems
Coconut Grove, Fla. – June 13, 2012 – Coconut Grove is a place where locals love their dogs, love their free spirit attitude and sure do love their happy hour. Now they have county-wide recognition to show for it!
Just this week the Miami New Times celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Best of Miami® issue. One of the its most read features, the awards highlight the best Miami has to offer in the areas of Arts & Entertainment, Food & Drink, People, Shopping & Services and Sports & Recreation.
Proudly raising a glass to winning one of the most coveted honors is Sandbar Sports Grill (3064 Grand Ave). Beating out the thousands of old and new establishments offering early evening deals, Sandbar took home the title of Best Happy Hour in all of Miami. Not far behind was Villa Mayfair (2901 Florida Ave.) whose posh “Blush Wednesdays” made it the perfect recipient for Best Ladies Night.
It should also come as no surprise that a neighborhood consistently recognized as having the city’s dog-friendliest atmosphere would have the local business to support it. Taking home the title for Best Veterinarian is Coconut Grove Animal Clinic (3200 Grand Ave.).
Even some of the “quirkiest” awards felt natural for the Grove to receive. Sandra Cheryl Richardson (3444 Main Highway) was voted Best Psychic and New Age Body Piercing (3070 Grand Ave.) received Best Body Piercing. Adventurous folks agreed that when your 50 feet below sea level, it’s only wise to trust the best with your life. Best Dive Shop went to Grove Scuba (2809 SW 27th Ave.).
In addition to some of its unique merchants, loyal foodies will be happy to hear the Grove also received awards for its restaurant scene. The perfect pairing, Happy Wine in the Grove (2833 Bird Ave.) was voted Best Wine Store and Spartico at the Mayfair Hotel (3000 Florida Ave.) Best Inexpensive Italian Restaurant. Peacock Garden Café took the neighborhood’s title for the Best Restaurant in Coconut Grove and while its sister restaurant on Coral Way was highlighted as a main location, Confucio Express (2982 Grand. Ave.) was named Best Chinese Take-Out, South.
